The City of Federal Way Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) is a list of projects considered for a six-year period. Updated and adopted by the City Council and submitted to the state each year, as required by law, the TIP includes both projects for which money has been allocated and are likely to be constructed within the six-year period, as well as unfunded projects that may not be constructed within the plan period.

The TIP serves as a draft work plan for the development of local transportation systems. It represents an important planning component under the state’s Growth Management Act. In most instances, projects must be included in the city's TIP to be eligible for state and federal grants funding.

The following projects are currently in design and/or under construction:

• 10th Ave. S. at Campus Intersection Improvements 
• Lakota - Safe Routes to School 

Over the past 10 years, a number of Capital Improvement Projects have been completed:

• I-5 at South 320th St Off-Ramp Project
• Weyerhaeuser Way and S. 336th St. Roundabout 
• S. 348th St. HOV Lanes 
• S. 356th at SR 99 Intersection 
• S. 348th St. at 1st Ave. S.
• Mark Twain Elementary School - Safe Routes to School Project

• 1-5 - SR 161 / SR 18 Triangle Improvements - The reconstruction includes replacing two cloverleaf loop ramps with flyover ramps for westbound SR 18 to southbound I-5 traffic and eastbound SR 18 to northbound I-5 traffic
